Whether you're involved in spirits production, wine education, quality control, sales & marketing, or simply a passionate drinks enthusiast, this course is your gateway to understanding flavor on a deeper level.
Sensory training is the foundation of flavor expertise. By honing your ability to identify and describe aromas, you’ll gain insight into how raw materials, production techniques, and maturation processes shape the final character of a drink. More importantly, you'll gain the confidence to speak the language of aroma and flavor with clarity and authority.
This immersive training includes Phase 1 of your sensory journey, offering a structured and practical introduction to:
The science of aroma and flavor perception
Developing your aroma vocabulary and sensory memory
How to calibrate your nose for consistent performance
Understanding how aromas behave and change over time
Aroma profiling techniques used across the drinks industry
Identifying common flavor faults and off-notes
Introduction to competency systems for professional sensory analysis
Whether you're tasting whisky, wine, rum, or coffee, these universal skills will strengthen your ability to detect, analyze, and articulate complex flavors—transforming the way you taste, talk, and think about what’s in the glass.
This course is all about training your nose and palate—not just to enjoy, but to understand. As part of the Aroma Academy Foundation Course, participants will engage in a guided exploration of specially selected aroma samples and real-world tasting exercises that bring theory to life.
Aroma Identification Kits – Featuring professionally calibrated aroma vials representing key scents found across wine, whisky, rum, and other beverages. These include fruity, floral, spicy, earthy, woody, and faulty aromas, designed to sharpen your sensory recognition.
Comparative Tasting Samples – A series of base liquid samples (category-specific or neutral) infused with aroma compounds, helping you isolate and understand individual scents in a controlled environment.
Real Beverage Applications – Depending on the session focus, you’ll taste 2–4 commercial examples (wine, whisky, gin, etc.) and apply your new sensory vocabulary in real time, analyzing aroma profiles, flavor structure, and finish.
By the end of the session, you'll not only recognize key aromas—you’ll confidently describe and evaluate them, setting the stage for more advanced sensory work in any drinks category.
The Aroma Academy Foundation Course is ideal for anyone looking to build confidence and competence in sensory analysis—whether you're just beginning your journey or looking to sharpen your edge in a professional setting.
